染色体外にDNA発見 genannetics:
Small DNA circles discovered outside the chromosomes in mammalian cells and tissues, including human cells
DNA is usually coiled tightly into chromosomes. These newly discovered microDNA circles are NOT attached to chromosomes, but are created when segments of DNA are excised from the coding and control regions in somatic cells, creating micro-deletions, possibly leading to disease.
The researchers theorize that future work in this area could lead to new knowledge about the causes of autism or schizophrenia, which may be due to incorrect functioning of certain genes in brain tissue.
Microdeletions in protective genes, such as tumour suppressors, could render them inactive and thus reduce protections against cancer, so this discovery is relevant to cancer research.
New discoveries in basic science mechanisms like this are fascinating, informing lots of different fields of biology! Way cool!

Hydroxymethyl Pyrone Crystallites
Also known as kojic acid, hydroxymethyl pyrone is widely used in the medical field as a pain killer, and an anti-inflammatory drug. It has dermatologic applications, used as a protective agent against UV light, and to lighten pigment spots and discolorations on the skin by inhibiting the formation of pigment. In the food industry, this antioxidant is also used as a precursor of flavor enhancers and to inhibit discoloration in agricultural products (by inhibiting polyphenol oxidase).

2004年８月に買って、昨年末まで会社で個人使用(WIn PC)していました。手前のパッドがややくたびれ感があり、本体から外れやすくなっていますが、接着剤やテープなどでの補修はしていません。好みで外してパッド無しでも使えるかと思います。それ以外は機能的にも全く問題ありません。自宅では別の白モデルをMacで使っています。
